So we had just assembled our new "lobster red" coffee table from CB2 in the TV room, and within half an hour, Chonita and Pepi had staked out their spots under this new roof. Notice that Pepi, as usual, is keeping a safe distance, but by no means ceding her rights to make herself just as comfortable under their newly discovered spot.
Pepi has been pawing at her groinal region incessently for a few weeks now. I finally took her to the vet three weeks ago and she was diagnosed with impacted anal glands. The technicians drained the glands and told me she should be fine for a couple years, but because of the odd way her tail (or the wierd clump that makes up her non-tail) grows, she is more susceptible to clogged anal glands in the future.
After that visit, I noticed the next day, she was still pawing away down there. I figured it couldn't possibly be impacted anal glands again, since they had just been drained the day before, so I figured it was just something she was used to doing and would gradually stop doing it over the next few days. However, she actually started doing it more and more, so after a couple weeks of that, we finally lifted her up and looked at her private parts and it looked nasty. Kind of bloody and swollen. I couldn't get an appointment at the vet until the following week, so I decided to take her in last friday as an "emergency," which just means I have to pay $50 extra and sit in the waiting room for whatever doctor has an opening. So I waited from 4 until 5, at which point they came out to tell me that I would have to wait until the emergency doctor came in for the night shift at 6pm. We were shown to an exam room and finally saw the doctor come in at 6:30pm. She was a great doctor. I really liked her. Too bad she can't be my regular doctor. I mean Pepi's regular doctor. I like my regular doctor. I don't like my urologist though. I need a new urologist.His name is Dr. Pinkney and I think that is a wierd name for a urologist for some reason.
Back to Pepi and her vagina. So the doctor looks at her hole areas and says it looks like an irritated vagina, but she is going to have to take her back and shave the area to get a better look. When she comes back, she says Pepi has a vaginal infection, but then she asks if her regular doctor has ever mentioned anything to me about the size of Pepi's vagina. I tell her no. She asks if there were any problems when she was spayed. I say not that anyone told me. She then says she thinks it's odd that my doctor never mentioned Pepi's vagina to me, because it is ABNORMALY LARGE! She said for a cat her size, it is pretty huge. So she is on antibiotics for a week. Not for the huge vagina, but for the infection therein. We were supposed to squirt the medicine into her mouth with this dropper thing (like the one we feed the newborns with). But Pepi was not having any of that. For a cat her size, she is amazingly strong (maybe it's all the vagina!). Tony would hold her, and she would be happy, purring. I would hold the dropper behind my back while petting her on the head, still no problem. But the second I got the thing anywhere near her mouth, she went totally apeshit! There was no way for Tony to hold on to her. All kinds of crazy cat noise and back arching and scratching. So I have been putting a little shredded chicken breast (her favorite) on a plate and squirting the medicine onto that. I hope that is ok.
The funny thing is that when I told Tony what the doctor said about Pepi's vagina, he said she was really lucky that we had found her, because it would be "dangerous to be living on the streets with a huge vagina."
antonio is home today and spent the day cleaning the bedroom. according to him, it looks amazing, which given the usual state of our bedroom, i can't wait to see. he sent me this picture of the cats, pepi sound asleep in the front and diabla acting wierd in the back. how much do i love my pepi? sgt. pepper. pepsi cola. pepita. peprika.
